iomart announce senior management appointment

Glasgow-based integrated telecommunications and Internet services company, iomart Group plc have announced the appointment of Daniel Smith as Director of ASP Services for iomart. The former cofounder of American Internet multinational, Big Planet, Daniel brings over ten years of high tech experience to iomart and will lead the roll out of the company’s outsourced e-mail platform, ThinkMail, which is

aimed at small to medium-sized enterprises, as well as the legal,

accountancy, utilities and public sectors.

In his new role at iomart, Daniel will be responsible for the management of the day-to-day technical operations including the systems, network and Network Operations Centre teams. Daniel will also manage iomart’s key internal product areas including Messaging (ThinkMail), Web Applications (EasyBuild, eCommerce, ASP), Hosting/Co-location, and Storage product lines.

Said Daniel: "I am joining iomart at a very exciting phase of the company’s development, and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead. Europe is the Internet hotspot at the moment and I have no doubt iomart will be at the forefront in the UK."

Immediately prior to his appointment to iomart, Daniel was Vice President of Technology for Pakana Corporation, a San Francisco based Professional Services startup focused on providing Internet systems integration solutions to business customers. However, Daniel first came to prominence in the Internet industry by co-founding Big Planet, a USA-based Internet and communications company with overseas operations in Japan and Taiwan. Daniel led the technical operations and engineering units for Big Planet, and also held responsibilities for product management and international business development.

In earlier assignments, Daniel served in technical capacities at CheckFree and Microsoft.
